King Arthur Flour recipe. It can be baked as a sheet cake or in two 8" round pans. I would probably prefer the round two-layer cake with frosting between the layers.
The recipe includes an optional ingredient, "boiled cider". This is a product they sell, outsourced from an orchard, and they recommend it for apple recipes (pies, cakes, breads, etc) to bump up the apple flavor. I haven't tried it yet.
