Easy and simple to make, you’ll never go back to the packaged variety once you’ve tasted the real thing.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon oil
2 large yellow onions, sliced thin (about 3 to 3 1/2 cups)
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, or to taste
1/4 pound softened cream cheese
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
Instructions
Heat butter and oil over medium heat until hot. Add onions, salt and pepper; cook, stirring occasionally, until golden brown, about 25 minutes. Stir in balsamic vinegar. Let cool.
Combine remaining ingredients in a food processor; process until just combined. Add onion mixture; pulse on and off until onions are coarsely chopped. Serve with taro chips, if desired.
