Okay, this is really weird but it's from ATK. Supposedly a way to really amp-up those cheapo little ramen packages from the grocery store, which usually sell for less than a dollar (you can buy cases of them for like five bucks). Even the Chief Executive Cook at Cook's Illustrated fell in love with it, saying their big regret was only making one package. Anyway the article says several times throughout: yes, weird, but "stay with me". They say it makes the ramen taste luxurious. Okay...
Ingredients
1 package Sapporo-brand miso-flavored ramen (they specifically say Sopporo, claiming it can be found at any local supermarket, but then they live on a different planet)
1 tbsp (roughly, two squirts) of Kewpie mayo. It has to be Kewpie, the stuff from a red-capped squeeze bottle.
1 egg
1 garlic clove, grated on microplane
Instructions
1. Put the egg, mayo, garlic, and the seasoning packets from the ramen into a bowl and whisk into a slurry.
2. Boil the brick of noodles according to directions (maybe undercook slightly).
3. Dump the noodles, water and all (this is a soup) into the bowl with the other ingredients and stir until the broth becomes silky.
